Japan Day 8 – Rest Day, Ish (Autobacs take II)

Rest day, ish <– that needs to be its own dictionary word, I take that back it is in a dictionary, the UrbanDictionary as the second definition listed. I’m sure though you don’t want to hear about that, it’s the trip you want to know about. So what did we do today? Welp as you probably know from the title we attempted the Autobacs trip again today, kind of a dual purpose trip as there are other cool things nearby as you have seen. So, Autobacs, yes we made it this time! And it was right next to another train station… oh well. Here’s pics from Super Autobacs, mostly a car parts retailer plus from the looks of things they have a tuned car dealership and they also probably do work there as well. It was Subaru Fair at the store when we went there so there were some sweet Subbies lined up out front:

More pics and the rest of the day here.

Japan Day 7 – Tokyo Tower/Imperial Palace Gardens

Day 7, hmmm, it’s Saturday the 7th here already, and its almost over for us :) Today was fairly eventful but I probably won’t talk too much about it. There’s about a 1.5GB of video to view from today, hopefully the hotel doesn’t shut off our internet for using too much :P either way it was a good day. As usual we started off with the continental breakfast, but again just Dave and I went down to eat. After that was done we tidied up, decided what we would do today and the three of us headed for the train station, first stop Tokyo Tower! Once we hit the station we had to walk a ways before we got to the tower, on the way however we ran smack into the Zojo-ji Temple.

Keep on reading for more pics of the temple as well as the rest of the day.

Japan Day 6 – Looking for Autobacs

Here’s to no itinerary, today we had no plans to do anything at all. Heather didn’t feel like eating breakfast, so Dave and I headed down on our own to eat. After breakfast we relaxed for a bit in the room, while I finished yesterday’s post. Dave decided he wanted to go check out the Autobacs shop over in Koto. Heather still wasn’t feeling too well so it was just Dave and I that headed out. Train hopped our way to Ariake, and were greeted with the following sights:

At this point we really didn’t have an exact direction to go, just an address… For those of you that know, that really doesn’t mean a whole lot as the addressing scheme isn’t exactly easy to follow even for locals so we just started walking in what looked to be the general direction we wanted to head, Koto-ku

Japan Day 5 – Shinjuku

Day five has come and gone, usual things happened this morning. Wake up, check the internets, hop down to breakfast again yay for free breakfast, which if I haven’t mentioned is rotated from what I can tell on a 3 day cycle of stuff to choose from. After breakfast we mulled over what to do. Dave wanted to head out early, but wanted to see the lights at night in Shinjuku. I knew we wouldn’t last all day there outside, in the 94% humidity, the sun. So we decided to stay in town for a bit then head over there around 1-2 in the afternoon. Which left us bored all morning which lead to our walk. We walked in a different direction today just kinda strolling, looking at the sights etc which brought us to numerous 100 yen (dollar) stores, and some cool park in the middle of the street. Here’s some pics from the walk, a pic of a small shrine wedged between 2 large buildings, random vending machines, and a car stacking thingy.

Afterwards we headed back home for some lunchy and a quick break. Then it was time to hit the rails and head to Shinjuku.

Japan Day 4 – Akihabara

Another day down! I know i’ve mentioned this to a few of you, but I hate itineraries and yes we’re still not following one :D . Also, here’s one of the video’s I promised back on day 2. Today we hit up the hotel breakfast buffet as usual, then we held off leaving the place until after morning rush hour. The reason for this is we still hadn’t purchased train tickets yet and well we didn’t want to clog up lines for ticket renewal and/or purchases when there were thousands (j/k hundreds) of people lining up and trying to make it to work/school. Rush hour ends around 0930 here so just a bit after we headed over to the station and purchased the Suica prepaid rail card.
The turnstiles to the platform have a prox sensor on them to pick up the presence of these cards so it’s pretty easy. Here’s a shot of the street near our hotel from the rail platform:
